Amour Meriteé For Survivors

Gender Based Violence (GBV) is REAL. 1 in 3 women worldwide are victims of physical, sexual or psychological harm. 603 million women live in countries where GBV is not considered a CRIME and is protected under the mask of customs or traditions. MEN are also victims of this adversity to human existence. On 13/2/16, at Sway Bar, London,  Okwuí Mask Scheme took a stand with amazing and unbreakable women and men survivors to unmask all forms of GBV in these countries and bring about laws and legislations that protect citizens. We started a journey to claim our Amour Méritée – Love Deserved!!!

The afternoon saw talks and workshops with survivors addressing strategies for rebuilding and restarting their lives. The event was kickstarted by Dr Chichi Menakaya who gave talks on statistics and facts. She then gave a motivational talk on how to restart from the beginning. Mrs Jenny Okafor a UK renowned legal expert spoke about her experiences and available legal support. The afternoon went on to have a lifestyle coach lead a workshop.

Barrister Jacqueline O’Fionnan spoke about legal UK practices. Different survivors, male and female recounted their journeys  to overcoming and liberating themselves from this grievous crime.

The afternoon was serenaded with powerful motivational music. A dance was done at the end to mark a new step to freedom.

A closing speech was made by the Major of Enfield, Mrs Kate Anolue to solidify the initiative.
